The Judia variety is the result of selection of local genotypes adapted to the mountainous regions of Portugal. The fruits of the variety possess high nutritional value, and their starch content increases under optimal growing conditions, which require a sum of temperatures of 2000–2200 °C.

Fruit caliber is subject to variability depending on environmental conditions and altitude, averaging less than 60 pieces per kilogram. The variety is the primary one for the production of products with the Castanha da Padrela protected geographical indication.

The variety is characterized by genetic heterogeneity of the material, which manifests in fruit morphology and size. During cultivation, the problem of polyspermy is noted, due to which selection work is being carried out to select the highest quality and most stable clones.
