Banyeta is a local genetic resource that has been cultivated for centuries on the island of Ibiza. The variety is not a product of breeding hybridization but belongs to traditional folk selections preserved in the germplasm banks of the Balearic Islands.

A key morphological feature of the variety is the hermaphroditic flower type, which distinguishes it from most other carob varieties. Physicochemical studies of the fruits show that the average pod length is 14.14 cm. The fruits are used in the food industry for gum production and as animal feed.
