The variety is a local landrace that emerged through folk selection in the Balearic Islands. It is not a product of modern breeding and is being actively studied as part of plant genetic resource conservation programs.
The fruits of the variety possess specific physicochemical parameters. In particular, the protein content in the fruit pulp is approximately 3.3 g per 100 g of dry matter. Like other varieties of this crop, the plant is noted for its adaptability to harsh climatic conditions, including drought tolerance and suitability for poor calcareous soils.
