The plant belongs to the group of leaf or heading chicories. It forms voluminous elliptical heads resembling romaine lettuce or Chinese cabbage. The leaves are broad, dense, and crunchy, light green in shade, becoming almost white toward the center of the head.
The vegetation period is 70–80 days. The variety is cold-hardy, drought-tolerant, and not intended for forcing. The crop is capable of maintaining freshness in cool conditions for 2 to 4 months. It is used as a salad crop, as well as for stewing, baking, or grilling.
