Variety description

The plant forms a compact rosette that develops into a dense head weighing from 200 to 450 g with a height of 15–30 cm. The leaves are rounded, reddish-purple in color with contrasting white veins; the intense color develops with the onset of cool autumn nights.

The variety is mid-season with a maturation period of 75–85 days, although forms with a 60–70 day period exist. The plant is able to withstand light autumn frosts, but is sensitive to early bolting when sown in cold soil.

When grown, it prefers fertile, well-drained soils and a sunny location. For consumption, it is used fresh, stewed, or boiled, and the leaf blanching method is sometimes used to soften the taste and alter the market appearance.
