The Sun Devil variety is included in EU registers as tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.), classified exclusively as a turf variety not intended for forage production. Detailed morphological characteristics and data on the originator are absent in open publications.

The name Sun Devil is also used to designate a variety of bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon). This variant is characterized by intermediate winter hardiness and high resistance to drought and heat, which makes it in demand for landscaping in warm climatic conditions.
