ActiveFicus carica L. · Common fig
Plattner Anton
10 August 2026
The Mission variety is a vigorous tree 3 to 6 meters tall with long, thin, and drooping branches. The plant is remontant and self-fertile, producing two crops per season: the first in early summer and the main one from late August to October.
The fruits weigh from 40 to 80 grams, have a pear shape and thin skin that turns dark purple, almost black, upon ripening. The fruit flesh is soft, pink-red in color, and characterized by a sweet taste. The variety is versatile in use; the fruits are suitable for fresh consumption, drying, and processing.
The frost resistance of the plant is estimated as medium; the variety is sensitive to frosts. Susceptibility to fig mosaic virus is noted, which appears on the leaves but usually does not affect fruiting.
