The plant reaches a height of 40–50 cm and possesses overwintering, dense, leathery foliage of a dark green color. Flowers 7.5–8 cm in diameter have a semi-double form with a characteristic central part made of nectaries.

Flowering is early: in the middle latitudes, it occurs in April–May, in southern regions it may begin from December. The variety is winter-hardy, adapts to soils with different acidity levels, prefers partial shade and moist, humus-rich grounds.

The plant is used in garden landscaping, mixed borders, and container cultivation, and is suitable for cutting. All parts of the plant are poisonous, which requires caution when in contact with the sap.
