The Estera variety was bred with the aim of increasing yield and alpha-acid content compared to the Lubelski variety. During tests in the period from 1976 to 1979, the yield of the variety was 1.9 t/ha, which was 18.8% higher than the performance of Lubelski, while the alpha-acid content was 8% higher.

In subsequent studies in the 2000s, cases of lower yield performance were noted in comparison with a number of other varieties. In scientific literature, the variety is often mentioned as an object of genetic research and identification using molecular markers within hop collections.
