The variety is a descendant of the Magnum variety, obtained by crossing with a male plant that is a mutant of the Izabella variety. The plant reaches a height of 6–9 meters and has a club-shaped habit with long lateral shoots and low foliage density. The main shoot is green-red in color with internodes 18–20 cm long. Ovoid or slightly elongated cones 2.5–3.0 cm in size with tightly adhering bracteoles are concentrated primarily in the upper part of the plant.
Technological maturity occurs in late August — early September. The yield of the variety is 2.7–3.0 t/ha. The variety shows low susceptibility to downy mildew and moderate susceptibility to powdery mildew, possesses good adaptability to harvesting and drying, and features a simplified process for guiding shoots onto trellises.
The alpha-acid content varies in the range of 11–15%. Despite belonging to bitter varieties, Magnat possesses a high content of linalool, providing an aromatic profile with floral, woody, resinous, and spicy notes. It is used in brewing for styles requiring pronounced bitterness, such as IPA, AIPA, and pilsner.
