Variety description

10 August 2026

The Monpol variety is a rootstock selected from a local population of Prunus insititia, also known as pollizo de Murcia. It is intended for vegetative propagation and is used primarily for growing peach, nectarine, and almond.

In scientific studies, the rootstock is characterized as vigorous. It shows a high level of resistance to certain species of root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.), however, in a number of trials, its susceptibility to the nematode Pratylenchus vulnus was noted.

The rootstock is adapted for use in specific conditions, in particular on heavy calcareous soils of the Mediterranean region. At the same time, this variety has a tendency to form root suckers, and in long-term trials in some plots, a certain level of tree mortality was observed.
