The variety is a spreading or broad-rounded shrub 1.0–1.8 m in height with large, glossy, dark green, serrated leaves. The inflorescences are flat corymbs, consisting of small fertile flowers in the center and large white double sterile flowers along the edges, resembling stars.
Flowering continues from June to September. The plant prefers partial shade and moist, acidic, humus-rich soils. Winter hardiness is moderate, down to approximately -20...-23°C (USDA zone 6a); flower buds and young shoots are sensitive to spring frosts. Shoots may lodge under the weight of the inflorescences.
