The shrub reaches a height of 1.0–1.2 meters. The leaves are green, serrated, and may acquire a dark, almost black hue in the autumn period. The inflorescences are flat: fertile flowers in the center are blue or purple, while sterile marginal flowers are pale pink, blue, or purple. Sterile flowers predominantly have three, more rarely four, sepals.
The flowering period lasts from the end of May to July. The variety withstands temperature drops down to -18 °C. It prefers partial shade and wind-protected sites with moist, well-drained soil. It is used in landscape design for group and border plantings, as well as a container plant.
