The series brings together compact shrubs 0.7–1.2 m in height. The plants are remontant, which ensures flowering on both last year's shoots and current year's growth, extending the decorative period.

The series' cultivars show sensitivity to soil pH levels and lighting conditions, which directly affects the change in inflorescence shades. The winter hardiness of the series representatives generally corresponds to USDA zone 6, which implies the need for covering in cold climates.

The plants are used in single and group plantings and are also suitable for container cultivation. Botanically, the series belongs to the species Hydrangea macrophylla, not Hydrangea serrata, despite the presence of characteristic lace-cap inflorescences in some representatives.
