The plant is a compact deciduous shrub about 1 meter tall. The leaves are opposite, with a serrated edge and a pointed tip. The inflorescences are of the "lacecap" type and are flat corymbs, in which white sterile flowers are located at the periphery and small fertile ones are in the center.
Flowering occurs in early summer, in June-July. The plant prefers partial shade and moist, well-drained soils. It belongs to varieties that require attention to overwintering and is usually recommended for hardiness zone 6.
The variety has economic importance: its leaves are traditionally used for preparing sweet herbal tea "amacha". The leaves contain the natural sweetener phyllodulcin.
