The plant is an upright spreading shrub, reaching approximately 1.2 m in height and width. The variety belongs to the group of lacecap hydrangeas, where sterile star-shaped flowers are arranged in a ring around central fertile flowers.
The foliage has serrated edges and changes color in the autumn period. The plant prefers moist, well-drained acidic soils and locations protected from strong wind and midday sun. Winter hardiness corresponds to USDA zones 5a–9b; shelter is required in regions with severe climates.
The variety is used in landscape design for creating borders and mass plantings, as well as for container growing and cut flowers. In literature and catalogs, it may be found under the names Shichidanka-nishiki, Pretty Maiden, or Komachi.
