M2 is a vigorous rootstock with an expansive and deep-penetrating root system. It is well-suited for most apple varieties and adapts to various soil types, although it requires good drainage due to its sensitivity to waterlogging.
The plant possesses marked resistance to crown rot and some resistance to crown gall. Trees grafted onto this rootstock are capable of entering the fruiting phase in the second or third year after planting, depending on the scion.
