The variety was discovered in Finland in 1879 in the city of Hyvinkää. The plant is a weeping small tree, the height of which depends on the rootstock and is usually 2–3 meters. Over time, the crown acquires a spreading umbrella-shaped form.
Flowering occurs in May – early June; the buds have a pinkish hue, and the opened flowers are white. The fruits are yellow-orange, sometimes with a red cover, possess juicy flesh and a spicy-sweet taste, and are suitable for fresh consumption and processing.
The variety is self-infertile and requires the presence of pollinators. The plant demonstrates high winter hardiness and has low susceptibility to scab. The exact species classification of the variety is a subject of discussion and may be classified as Malus prunifolia or Malus hupehensis.
