The Voinesti-2 rootstock was developed at the Fruit Growing Research Institute in Voinesti, Romania. Genetically, it is a hybrid of the M.9 and Cretesc varieties. In terms of growth vigor, the rootstock belongs to the dwarf group, showing growth energy in comparative trials close to the M.27 or P.22 rootstocks, which makes it less vigorous than the standard M.9 rootstock.
The primary purpose of this plant is to serve as a rootstock for grafting cultivated apple varieties. The rootstock is characterized by good fruiting efficiency of the varieties grafted onto it. Data on its disease resistance is limited, however, it is assumed that its winter hardiness may be higher than that of the M.27 rootstock.
