The variety is traditional to the Huesca region and has a long history of cultivation, with mentions found in records from the early 19th century. Historically, the variety was often confused with the widely distributed Manzanilla de Sevilla variety due to the visual similarity of the fruits; however, modern genetic studies confirm they are distinct.

The fruits of the variety have an apple-like shape, which is reflected in the Latin definition pomiformis. At present, the variety is classified as a minor variety and is an object of genetic diversity conservation, while detailed agronomic characteristics of the plant in available sources are limited.
