The variety has a genetic connection to varieties such as Frantoio, Maurino, and Leccino. It is used as a pollinator variety for Frantoio and Moraiolo olive trees, and the fruits are used for oil production, often as part of blends.

Under water stress conditions, the variety demonstrates relative resistance to leaf curling, which characterizes it as drought-tolerant compared to a number of other varieties.
