The variety is autochthonous to the Var region and was historically developed through folk selection. In modern studies, it is classified as a minor variety and is included in genetic databases under the code 405 to clarify its profile and distinguish it from other local forms. It has the synonym Arabanier.

The plant is primarily grown to produce mild and aromatic olive oil. Detailed data regarding tree habit or ripening periods are absent from sources; however, the variety is noted as a useful element for olive groves as a pollinator.
