The variety is a local type identified and characterized within the framework of research on olive tree conservation in Catalonia. Samples of this variety were recorded in the municipality of Riudecanyes. Studies indicate a possible synonymy with varieties growing in other regions of Spain.

Detailed agronomic descriptions of the variety, such as yield indicators or disease resistance, are absent in open sources, as the plant is not a commercial variety and is studied in germplasm banks. It is important not to confuse this variety with the widely distributed commercial variety Arbequina.
