The variety is native to Greece and is cultivated primarily on the islands of Corfu and Crete. In scientific literature, it is also found under the names Kalokairida or Proimi.
The plant is a self-incompatible variety; the presence of pollinators is required to ensure a yield. The variety is characterized by high susceptibility to infestation by the olive fruit fly. Genetically, the variety shows proximity to the olive variety Kalamon.
