The Leccio Millennio variety, also known by the breeding code Pisa 9, is a subject of breeding developments by specialists at the University of Pisa. This variety is the result of scientific activity in the field of studying the genetic diversity of olive crops.

Studies of the variety focus on the analysis of its reproductive characteristics. In particular, a high rate of successful pollen germination and its penetration into the ovule has been recorded, which indicates good potential for the fertilization process.
