The variety is a minor one and is included in the Portuguese olive collections maintained by the National Institute for Agricultural and Veterinary Research. It is traditionally distributed in the Ribatejo and Trás-os-Montes regions.

The oil of this variety is characterized by a high content of oleic acid, tocopherols, and polyphenols such as oleocanthal. The flavor and aroma profile is characterized as pungent, with notes of sweet berries, cinnamon, green almond, and a characteristic burning aftertaste.
