The variety has a centuries-old history and is associated with the Sierra de Francia region in Spain, and is also actively cultivated in Portugal. The trees are characterized by regular bearing and good productivity, however, the variety is sensitive to drought and is considered relatively rare compared to mass-market varieties.

The oil obtained from Ocal olive fruits is characterized by the absence of pronounced bitterness and an elegant flavor, which is why it is often used in blends to improve the organoleptic properties of the final product.
