The variety is a compact, densely branched shrub 1.2–1.5 m in height, sometimes reaching 1.8 m. The leaves are lobed and textured; upon unfolding, they have a bright red color, which darkens to a wine-burgundy or cherry-brown shade by mid-summer.
Flowering occurs in June-July with small white-pink flowers collected in corymbose inflorescences, followed by the formation of reddish follicles. The plant is characterized by high resistance to diseases and pests, winter hardiness (zone 4, down to -34 °C), and the ability to withstand short-term drought.
