The variety is named after the Schaarbeek commune near Brussels. It is an old type of sour cherry, valued for its intense aroma, deep dark-red color, soft flesh, and specific sweet-and-sour taste.
The plant is adapted to the pedoclimatic conditions of the Ardennes. The variety is characterized by immunity to Monilinia (twig blight). The fruits are of medium size and dark-red color.
Currently, the variety is rare due to low yields compared to modern industrial varieties and is considered an object for the conservation of genetic resources.
