Schattenmorelle is an old sour cherry variety, presumably originating in France at the end of the 16th century and having become widespread in Germany. The variety is characterized by high yield, self-fertility, and late fruit ripening in July-August.

Trees are of medium size and reach a height of 2 to 5 meters depending on the rootstock. The fruits of the variety are large, dark red, almost black in color, and possess juicy flesh with a characteristic acidic taste. The variety is highly susceptible to Monilinia, requiring protective measures.

Schattenmorelle fruits have a multipurpose use: they are suitable for fresh consumption, home cooking, and the preparation of juices, jams, and compotes. Information regarding the specific number 226/80 is absent in official agronomic reference books.
