Variety description

10 August 2026

The name Bijelica unites a number of local genotypes traditionally grown in the Balkan region. Varieties of this group belong to the early category, with a fruit ripening period from July 20 to July 30 and an early flowering time.

The fruits are characterized by a moderate sugar content, which is why they are used more often for preparing traditional beverages rather than for fresh consumption. Plants show resistance to red leaf spot, plum pockets, and rust, although their status regarding plum pox virus may vary.

Trees of the Bijelica group are sometimes used as rootstocks. Given that these are folk varieties, the morphological indicators of the tree depend heavily on the conditions of crown formation and the rootstock used.
