The OCCHIO ROSSO variety, also known as Occhio Rosso di Trani, is historically distributed in the areas of the cities of Corato, Andria, and Trani. The name of the variety is due to the reddish tint of the pericarp at the point of attachment to the peduncle.

The fruits of the variety are medium-large in size and oval in shape. The shell is of medium thickness, with a closed ventral suture. The kernel is medium-sized, elliptical in shape, with wrinkled dark brown skin and a sweet taste.

The variety is characterized by early flowering, which begins around February 17 and lasts up to 20 days. Harvesting is carried out in the second ten-day period of August.
