The variety is a local traditional almond originating from Sardinia, Italy. It is not a product of modern breeding and often features in biodiversity studies and comparative genetic analyses of Mediterranean varieties.
Olla variety almonds are used fresh and roasted, as well as in cooking for the preparation of desserts such as nougat and almond cookies. The fruits are also used in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries to produce oil and essences.
