Variety description

The rootstock was developed as part of a hybrid breeding program based on species of the genus Prunus, specifically as a hybrid of Prunus fruticosa and Prunus cerasus. It was intended for the establishment of intensive stone fruit orchards.

Research revealed high sensitivity of the rootstock to infections with prune dwarf virus and necrotic ringspot virus. Due to these drawbacks, the widespread use of Gisela 10 in commercial horticulture was discontinued.
