The rootstock is a hybrid of Prunus avium and Prunus fruticosa. Its main purpose is for grafting sweet cherry and sour cherry varieties; it belongs to a group of rootstocks that reduce scion vigor, conferring dwarf or semi-dwarf properties to the trees.

Plants on this rootstock are characterized by good compatibility with most sweet cherry varieties and tolerance to viruses. Key features include high yield, early entry into fruiting, and moderate tendency to produce root suckers. It is propagated primarily by in vitro methods or by cuttings.
