The Cheeky variety, also known by the trade name Cape Rose, was developed as part of a breeding program for pears with a pronounced red blush for the export market. This variety is intended exclusively for fresh consumption.

The fruits are characterized by a delicate pink shade on the surface. The taste qualities are described as a combination of sweetness and slight tartness with juicy flesh.
