The variety was discovered in France in the 18th century and named after the botanist Louis-Augustin Bosc. The fruits have a classic elongated shape, thin skin covered with russeting, which acquires a brown-golden shade upon ripening.

The fruit flesh is snow-white or cream-colored, buttery, juicy, with a dessert taste and spicy notes. The variety has high tree vigor, but is characterized by low winter hardiness, which limits the possibilities of its cultivation in regions with cold climates.
