The tree has moderate vigor, reaching a height of 2.4 to 4 meters depending on the rootstock and crown formation. The variety is upright, prone to active formation of fruit buds on spurs. It is characterized by resistance to spring frosts and some resistance to scab.

Fruits are medium to medium-large in size, pear-shaped. The smooth skin changes color from light green to yellow-green upon ripening, often showing a pinkish-red blush and brown russeting. The flesh is creamy white, buttery, juicy, and tender. The harvest ripens in September to early October; the storage life of the fruits is limited to a few weeks.

The variety is self-infertile and requires pollinators belonging to the 3rd or 4th flowering groups. At the same time, the Onward variety is not suitable for pollinating the Doyenne du Comice pear variety.
