This variety is a landrace historically distributed in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. In historical publications of the early 19th century, the variety is found under the synonyms Virgolata, Vergolosa and Poire Virgouleuse.
The fruits are described as having tender, juicy, yet fleshy and tart flesh. Based on its organoleptic characteristics, the variety bears a resemblance to the Limonino pear.
Modern agronomic indicators, such as plant height or resistance to specific diseases, are not documented. The variety is under threat of genetic erosion and is considered exclusively as an object for the conservation of biodiversity.
