The variety was obtained by crossing 'Frank Galsworthy' and 'Jonathan Shaw'. The plant is known for its exceptionally dense dome-shaped inflorescences.
The flowers are characterized as dark purple or dark violet with a darker, almost black center. The variety stands out for its color intensity, being considered one of the darkest rhododendrons.
