The variety is an evergreen slow-growing shrub with a cushion-like or dome-shaped habit. By 10 years of age, the plant reaches a height of 50–80 cm and a width of up to 100–110 cm. The foliage is dense, dark green, glossy, and elliptical or ovate in shape.
Funnel-shaped or bell-shaped flowers of a vanilla-lemon shade are gathered in dense inflorescences of 16–20 pieces, often with reddish-brown speckles on the upper petal. Flowering occurs in May–June; repeat flowering is sometimes observed at the end of summer.
The plant is winter hardy, withstanding temperatures down to -21...-29°C. It requires protection from wind and is sensitive to water stagnation and soil pH levels. It is used in landscape design for single and group plantings, as well as for container cultivation.
