The shrub has a symmetrical, compact form, reaching a height and width of 2 m by the age of 20. The variety was obtained as a result of open pollination of Rhododendron catawbiense 'Grandiflorum'.
The flowers are single, large, 9.5–10 cm in diameter, and have a purple-pink color with a characteristic yellow-green or ochre spot. Flowering occurs from the end of May to the first half of June.
The plant is characterized by good winter hardiness, capable of withstanding frosts down to -35°C, although slight leaf damage is possible during extremely cold periods. The variety is intended for ornamental gardening.
