The variety was selected by Luther Burbank as a mutation of the Burbank’s Seedling variety. The plant is medium-sized, intermediate type with white flowers. Tubers are large, elongated cylindrical in shape, have a beige-brown netted skin and numerous shallow eyes.
The variety belongs to late or very late maturity groups. It possesses high resistance to blackleg, moderate to common scab and Fusarium rot, but is susceptible to late blight, Verticillium wilt, and a number of viral diseases. It requires a long growing season and stable irrigation to prevent tuber deformation.
High starch content makes the variety mealy, which determines its culinary use for baking and mashed potato preparation. It is the primary variety used in industrial processing for the production of French fries.
