The plant forms dense clumps 20–25 cm high, with flower stalks reaching 30 cm. The leaves are semi-evergreen, deeply dissected, with a characteristic dark brown or black "feathered" pattern along the central vein and main veins. The flowers are small, star-shaped, light pink or cream-white, have a light fragrance, and are gathered in raceme inflorescences.

Flowering occurs in mid-to-late spring. The plant propagates by stolons and prefers moist, humus-rich, well-drained soils, and shady or semi-shady areas. The variety is characterized by good resistance to powdery mildew and winter hardiness in USDA zones 4–9.
