The plant forms a dense, compact clump. Foliage height is 10–25 cm, and flower stalks reach 25–30 cm. The leaves are maple-shaped, deeply lobed, light green with white speckles and dark burgundy veins; they may acquire a pinkish hue in autumn.
Small white flowers are gathered in fluffy raceme inflorescences. The flowering period occurs in May–June. The plant is semi-evergreen, characterized by winter hardiness (USDA zones 4–8) and resistance to deer damage; it is not prone to lodging.
