Tiarella «Iron Butterfly» is a compact plant forming dense clumps. The height of leaf rosettes is 15–20 cm, and the plant reaches 30–40 cm with flower stalks. In the cold season, the foliage acquires a bronze-purple hue.

Flowering occurs in April-May; the plant produces upright leafless flower stalks with white or pale pink bottle-brush shaped inflorescences. The variety prefers partial shade or full shade and moderately moist, well-drained soils.

The plant is susceptible to powdery mildew under unfavorable conditions and can also be damaged by slugs and weevils. It is used in landscape design for creating groundcover compositions, borders, decorating shaded gardens, and container cultivation.
