The variety belongs to the Timilia wheat subgroup and was identified in the 1930s as a variety with white awns. The plants are tall, reaching a height of 125–135 cm. The variety is known as "marzuolo" due to the possibility of spring sowing, being one of the earliest maturing variants of the crop.

The plant is well-adapted to the Sicilian climate, demonstrating high resistance to arid conditions and not requiring complex agronomic practices. The grain contains a high level of protein and fiber with a low gluten index.

Flour from this variety is traditionally used for baking, in particular for making dark-colored bread, and for the production of pasta. In recent years, the variety has also begun to be used in craft brewing.
