The variety belongs to the short vegetation cycle group, traditionally called March wheat, as sowing is carried out in March or earlier, and ripening occurs over a short period of time. The plant has thin stems and a high tillering index; the grain is small and dark.

This variety is distinguished by high drought tolerance and does not require intensive cultivation technologies, which makes it suitable for organic farming. Flour from this grain contains high levels of protein and fiber with a low gluten index.

It is traditionally used for baking, in particular, for making Castelvetrano black bread, as well as for the production of craft beer.
