The variety has strong vigor. Leaves are medium-sized, five-lobed, with pubescence on the underside. Clusters are medium-sized, cylindrical-conical or pyramidal, often winged, of medium density. Berries are medium or small in size, round or ellipsoidal in shape, black in color.

The yield of the variety is high and stable, requiring control through shoot pruning. The variety is characterized by moderate susceptibility to downy mildew and an increased predisposition to grey mold, especially with compact clusters.

Wines from Barbera possess a deep ruby color, moderate tannins, and pronounced acidity. The bouquet is dominated by notes of cherry, raspberry, plum, and blackberry. The variety pairs well with oak barrel aging to improve the structure of the wine.
