The classic Western European variety Bastardo, known as Trousseau, originates from the Jura region. It is an early variety characterized by low resistance to diseases, in particular gray and black rot, and high sensitivity to weather conditions. The yield of the variety is unstable; it is used for the production of red, rosé, and fortified wines, which possess high acidity and aromas of spices and red berries.

Bastardo Magarachsky is a mid-late variety obtained by crossing the varieties Bastardo and Saperavi. The vine is medium-sized, the leaf is medium, rounded, five-lobed with arachnoid-bristly pubescence on the underside. The bunch is medium, conical, of medium density. The berries are medium, oval, dark blue with a waxy bloom and juicy pulp.

The Bastardo Magarachsky variety is characterized by high yield, good maturation of shoots, and frost resistance, with low resistance to fungal diseases. It is an industrial variety intended for the production of table, dessert, and liqueur wines, which are distinguished by characteristic chocolate notes.
